When prospective students reach out through MSU Online or through other channels, they are not yet committed. They are exploring whether your program is the right fit for their goals and circumstances. Your department's response at this stage sets the tone for the entire applicant experience. Departments that engage early, ask the right questions, and help prospective students make an informed decision about fit, tend to enroll students who are better prepared, more motivated, and more likely to complete the program.
Prospective students browse MSU's full list of graduate programs, including master's degrees, doctoral degrees, and graduate certificates, through the MSU admissions website. Online programs are also discoverable through MSU Online. Students are encouraged to contact your department before applying to confirm requirements and deadlines.
Applications are submitted through MSU's online application portal. Applicants create an account, select their program of interest, and submit all required materials, which vary by program and are set by the department. Common requirements include transcripts, letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and test scores where applicable.
Once submitted, applications are reviewed by the department or program. Your department is responsible for evaluating applications, making admissions decisions, and communicating outcomes to applicants. For prospective students, waiting on an admissions decision is one of the most stressful parts of the process.
